Michigan Master Assessing Officer (MMAO)
Two options are available for Individuals interested in obtaining MMAO certification.
- Completion of the STC Michigan Master Assessing Officer Program
- STC Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Projects/Education

STC MMAO Program:
Students are required to complete 3 pre-requisite classes prior to applying to the STC program. Credit will be issued for a qualifying course. The link below provides a list of course equivalents that are currently being accepted. Please note this is not an all-inclusive list and students may submit a class for review and approval to issue credit at any time.
Courses may also be offered by outside organizations. Any organization wishing to sponsor a class must complete the Michigan Master Assessing Officer (MMAO) Organization Program Packet in it's entirety.
STC Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Education/Projects:
Individuals who currently hold the CAE designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) or the Ad Valorem/Mass Appraisal - General designation from the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and can demonstrate the designation was achieved by completing requirements directly with and through IAAO or ASA and that no other forms of waivers or reciprocity was provided through that organization in order to achieve the designation may apply for an Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Project/Education. Individuals who meet all of these requirements must submit an application to the State Tax Commission and provide documentation proving the designation is current, is held in good standing and was achieved through the organization as required.
An informational session regarding the MMAO Program will be held on November 28, 2017 at the Okemos Conference Center Rooms A and B beginning at 2:00 P.M. Please call Barb Duncanson at 517-373-8320 no later than November 17, 2017 to sign up to attend.
The State Tax Commission is pleased to announce they will sponsor in 2018 the three required MMAO Pre-Requisite courses and the two recommended courses in an online/lecture hybrid format. Each course will be offered in a four week format at a cost of $250/course. Each course will be limited to 35 students. Individuals must hold a valid MAAO Certification to attend and be actively working toward application to the STC MMAO Program.
Advanced Market Analysis will be offered from January 13, 2018 until February 10, 2018. Registration forms are due December 1, 2017.
Advanced Depreciation will be offered from February 10, 2018 until March 10, 2018. Registration forms are due by January 1, 2018.
Advance Income will be offered from March 24, 2018 until April 28, 2018. Registration forms are due by March 1, 2018.
Finance, Management and Valuation Disclosure will be offered from May 19, 2018 until June 16, 2018. Registration forms are due by April 1, 2018.
Appraisal Review will be offered from June 16, 2018 until July 14, 2018. Registration forms are due by May 1, 2018.
