Event Information
The Archives of Michigan, in partnership with the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), is excited to offer a hands-on workshop on disaster preparedness, emergency mitigation, and salvage recovery of historical public records and cultural heritage materials.
The audience for these workshops is staff and volunteers at cultural heritage organizations in Michigan (archives, historical societies, libraries, and museums) and local government offices (clerks, treasurers, and court registers).
Dates & Locations:
- August 11, 2026 - Marquette, MI (Northern Michigan University)
- October 6, 2026 - Roscommon, MI (Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center)
- October 8, 2026 - Lansing, MI (Michigan Library & Historical Center)
All workshops will run between 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Exact details will be emailed to participants in the weeks leading up to each event. Lunch will be included.
Important Info:
Please note that by attending this workshop, you agree to be added to a statewide cohort of volunteer cultural heritage “first responder” coordinated by the Archives of Michigan. After this workshop, you may be asked to advise and assist after a natural or human-made disaster in your region.
Each workshop is limited to 30 participants. If seats fill before you are able to register, you will be added to a cancellation waitlist, as well as a waitlist for the 2027 workshop dates.
Requesting ADA Title II services: To request ADA Title II services for DTMB-managed facilities and/or public meetings sponsored by DTMB, requests should be sent via email to DTMB’s ADA Coordinator, T.J. Richardson, at DTMB-Health-and-Safety@Michigan.gov 10 to 14 days prior to a request for accommodation.
