Language Access Services

The State Budget Office (SBO) will provide meaningful communication and access to information for people who need language services help.  Free language assistance is available upon request. 

If a person’s preferred method of receiving interpreting and translation help is by a support person like a family member or friend, this is allowable if the person is 18 years or older. Relying on a minor under the age of 18 to provide language assistance is not permitted. 

SBO Language Access Plan 

The State Budget Office (SBO) Language Access Plan has been developed to ensure that all Michigan residents with limited English proficiency can access information and services of the State Budget Office. It outlines the policies, procedures, and language access services that will be provided by the State Budget Office to support timely, accurate, and meaningful communication with individuals with limited English proficiency.

Your Rights 

Under federal and state law, you have the right to: 

  • Receive language assistance at no cost when accessing state government services.  
  • Work with designated SBO Staff and an interpreter.
