General


The Newberry Correctional Facility is in Pentland Township, Luce County, on M-123 and was formerly part of Newberry Regional Mental Health Center. 

Newberry Correctional Facility consists of 1104 general population beds, and four cells that are used for temporary holding.

Programming


Prisoner programming includes, High School Equivalency (HSE), Adult Basic Education (ABE), Welding Trades, Employment Counseling, Career Scope, Work Keys, Employment Readiness, Violence Prevention Program (VPP), Thinking for a Change and Michigan Domestic Violence Programming (MIDVP).

Several substance abuse programming options are offered at Newberry Correctional Facility to include Phase II Substance Abuse, Advanced Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT), Alcohol Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Cross-Addiction (CA). 

The facility also offers general and law library access, various indoor and outdoor recreational activities, musical groups, barber services, several religious options, a variety of self-help classes and a self-help library.  

NCF currently provides housing and training for shelter dogs through a local animal shelter.

Prisoners are provided with on-site routine medical, dental, optical, and mental health services. More serious problems and emergencies are treated at, or referred to, area hospitals and clinics.

Security


The perimeter security includes a buffer fence, double chain link fences, razor-ribbon wire, electronic detection systems and an armed patrol vehicle.
