The Michigan Department of Corrections has stopped over 100 incidents of contraband from coming into facilities since January 1, 2026.

The department has made significant investments into technology to stop contraband from coming into facilities. 

Package Scanners

The department has implemented an advanced baggage and parcel inspection systems to screen packages, mail, and visitor belongings. These scanners are deployed at facility entry points and warehouses to assist in detecting illicit materials, synthetic drugs, and hidden contraband.

Body Scanners

The department has implemented body scanners at its facilities to assist in scanning individuals and items coming into correctional facilities. These scanners provide additional assistance in detecting illicit materials such as synthetic drugs, weapons, and hidden contraband.
