I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January 2011

LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER RECOGNITION MONTH

WHEREAS, Providing a quality education for our children is an unmistakable priority of our state government, as asserted by Article VIII, §2 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963; and

WHEREAS, Our democracy gives the chief responsibly of managing, preserving and enriching our public schools to local elected school boards; and
 
WHEREAS, Each year, local school board members contribute hundreds of hours of service through curriculum and policy development, hiring first class personnel, managing district finances and listening to concerns across their respective communities; and
 
WHEREAS, These upstanding public servants set the standard for civic responsibility in and outside the classroom; and
 
WHEREAS, Local School Board Member Recognition Month is an opportunity to strengthen the community relationships we need for strong schools and is an apt expression of Michigan's sincere appreciation for its local school board members;
 
NOW ,THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January 2011 Local School Board Member Recognition Month in Michigan and encourage local school districts and community leaders to recognize our dedicated local school board members.
