COURSE DESCRIPTION

Construction trades routinely renovate and demolish buildings that were built prior to 1981. These activities often pose a health risk by exposing employees to asbestos-containing materials (ACM) or presumed asbestos-containing materials (PACM).  General industry employees are also subject to asbestos exposure, rules and regulations. Asbestos awareness training is for general industry and construction employees; whose work activities may contact but do not disturb ACM or PACM.

Lead is also found in both general industry and in construction.  Many construction activities can disturb lead; such as building demolition, alteration, renovation, repair, and/or painting.  This combined awareness training course consists of information regarding asbestos and lead in their various forms and uses.  Training also includes information on the health effects associated with asbestos and/or lead exposure.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Behavioral safety is the application of behavior analysis to work, specifically, safe and unsafe performance of a task.  Using scientific principles of motivation, systems are analyzed to identify what is motivating safe or unsafe performance.  For example, people take safety shortcuts because they are motivated by the certain and immediate consequence of saving a little time and they are not motivated by the fairly uncertain and unlikely consequence of getting hurt.  Systems can then be modified or implemented to improve performance in a positive method. Implementation will be discussed with an emphasis on providing examples from companies who have used behavioral safety successfully.

Electrocutions continue to be one of the leading causes of fatalities in construction.  This program will explain and illustrate the primary electrical hazards in and around construction.  There will be special emphasis on the importance of recognizing and eliminating hazards in order to avoid shock and/or electrocution in the work place.  Also covered in the program will be MIOSHA standards that apply to electrical hazards; what constitutes a fatal amount of current and when overhead lines need to be de-energized.

This seminar will provide an overview of MIOSHA Part 9 -Excavations, Trenching, and Shoring. Health Hazards In Construction

This course will help educate and make the construction manager/worker aware of some typical occupational health hazards and potential health effects that are associated with the construction trade industry.  This workshop is designed to give the student an overview of the basics of industrial hygiene, as well as health issues that may be encountered in the construction industry.  Topics covered include lead, silica, cadmium, isocyanates, hexavalent chromium, and asbestos.  Students will be able to recognize potential problems with exposures and how to protect themselves with the use of engineering controls and personal protective equipment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Level Two Management MTI Boot Camp has been especially prepared for those students holding a Level One certificate, who have not taken any Level Two MTI Management Track classes, and have the responsibility for implementing safety and health systems. As such, attendees shall be required to sign-up for the entire six day MTI Boot Camp. Under this format, no refunds or make-ups will be available. If a student misses one or more days of the class for which they wish to receive credit, they shall be required to take and pay for the same class at a different time and location.

Individual certificates of attendance will be given for each class. However, to receive the Level Two Management certificate and credit, students will be required to obtain a passing score of 70% on the assessment that accompanies each class. Assessment testing will be administered at the end of each class.

MIOSHA reserves the right to change the curriculum as needed for the Level Two Management certificate.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 10-hour program presents an overview of MIOSHA regulations for the construction industry.  Detailed information is presented to enable the participant to develop an accident prevention plan as required by Rule 114 of MIOSHA Construction Safety Standard Part 1, General Rules.  An overview of MIOSHA inspection procedures is presented, as well as the most frequently cited MIOSHA violations in the construction industry.  Participants gain detailed information regarding construction and health standards relative to the industry.  Emphasis will be placed on recognizing hazards and describing safe work practices to eliminate or control those hazards.  

Students will receive both MIOSHA and OSHA 10-hour cards upon successful completion of the class.

This MIOSHA program is designed to help employers ensure that their organization complies with MIOSHA recordkeeping requirements as contained in MIOSHA Administrative Rules Part 11, Recording and Reporting of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses.  In addition to learning and understanding the “recordability” of work related injuries and illnesses, attendees will actively participate in a group exercise to complete the MIOSHA 300 log.  Using this data, participants calculate injury and illness rates and learn how to compare these rates to other companies with their North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS).

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Mobile equipment is used in most construction job sites today. Workers need to employ safe work practices while working with and around these powerful machines in order to not get caught in their deadly grasp. Construction sites are also near or within the roadways of public traffic. Work zone safety through communication to the public vehicle driver, work protocol, and planning is important to saving the lives of this growing workforce. This course provides knowledge of best practices, MIOSHA standards, and a brief overview of referenced 2005 Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD) through a presentation, interactive instruction, practical exercises, and discussion with a knowledgeable instructor. This training session will provide attendees with job site hazard identification and evaluation knowledge. Mobile equipment safety topics include motor vehicles, material handling, and training requirements.  Work zone safety topics include traffic control devices, signage, plans, and employee training.  This is not a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) MMUTCD Part 6 Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) training course.

This challenging seminar provides the information needed to safeguard your employees and property from electrical hazards in the work environment.  We will discuss the application of MIOSHA electrical standards for both general industry and construction.  Topics include a fundamental explanation of electricity, clarification of qualified vs. unqualified employees, how to work with electricity safely, as well as electrical installation expectations.  Emphasis is placed on electrical hazard recognition, the safe and correct use of electrical testing equipment and case study review.

Crystalline silica is a common mineral found in such materials such as sand, stone, concrete, mortar, and many other products. It is a common product utilized in many construction and general industry processes. This course will discuss the various health hazards and their routes of exposure in relation to respirable silica exposures within the workplace. Participants will learn applicable terminology and fundamental concepts essential to understanding and reducing and/or eliminating employee exposure to respirable silica dust in the general industry and construction fields.
