Online Advertisements Increase in September 2026

September 2026 Overview

Michigan had 230,170 available online job advertisements in September 2026, an increase of 7 percent over the month and the year. August 2026 had about 215,000 ads while September 2025 had just under 215,300 ads. Newly posted advertisements in September 2026, or ads that did not carry over from prior months, were roughly at 96,700. Similar to total postings, new advertisements increased both over the month and over the year.

The companies who had the most online job postings across the state during the month were Henry Ford Health, Meijer, Corewell Health, University of Michigan, and Trinity Health. Four of the top five companies have healthcare-related occupations at the top of their listings. Registered nurses were the topmost posted occupation for all companies except Meijer. The number one advertised occupation for Meijer was Stockers and order fillers. This was followed by Retail salespersons and Cashiers. The only other non-health-specific employer, University of Michigan, heavily sought Postsecondary teachers. The number of advertisements for this occupation nearly matched the number for Registered nurses at the university.

Overall, the state posted the most openings for Retail salespersons; Registered nurses, Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers; First-line supervisors of retail sales workers; and Home health and personal care aides. The top five occupations by online advertisements were unchanged over the month and over the year. This demonstrates the consistent need across these occupations in Michigan.

Healthcare

Most of the top companies posting advertisements in Healthcare were related to hospital systems across the state. This is not unexpected given that Hospitals held 32 percent of employment in the sector in 2025. The top companies with job openings during the month were Henry Ford Health, Corewell Health, Trinity Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and CVS Health. Coincidentally, the top three employers for the sector were within the top five across the state overall, illustrating the magnitude of Healthcare.

The top advertised occupations in Healthcare were Registered nurses; Home health and personal care aides; Health technologists and technicians, all other; Medical and health services managers; and Medical assistants. Most of these titles also appear within the key occupations of the full Healthcare Industry Workforce Analysis Report.

Manufacturing

A sizeable share of online advertisements in Manufacturing belong to the Detroit Three: Stellantis (previously Chrysler), General Motors, and Ford. Combined, these companies provided 17 percent of all Manufacturing ads in September 2026. Following behind these automotive manufacturers was Magna International (automotive supplier); Woodward (designer and manufacturer for aerospace and industrial equipment); and Stryker (medical technology and equipment manufacturing).

The top occupations for the sector were Industrial engineers; Production workers, all other; Software developers; Mechanical engineers; and Maintenance and repair workers, all other. Both Industrial engineers and Mechanical engineers appear in the list of key occupations in the full Manufacturing Industry Workforce Analysis Report. However, this does not take away from the importance the other occupations have within Manufacturing.
