Tips for Advancing Vaccine Confidence

As an MIHP home visitor, it is understandable that it may be difficult to have certain conversations with families who are vaccine hesitant, however working with those families creates an opportunity to educate. Many families have questions about their children’s vaccines, and answering their questions can help families feel confident in choosing to immunize their child according to the CDC’s recommended immunization schedule. Answers to vaccine questions is key to navigating through hesitancy and moving toward what CDC calls vaccine confidence37: the belief that vaccines work, are safe, and are part of a trustworthy medical system.

How does the research suggest approaching those conversations?

It is vital to vaccine conversations that the provider understands the complexity of vaccines. A provider who is well educated around the topic of vaccinations is the key to opening up conversations.39
