Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area

Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area – located 8 miles south of Lapeer – surrounds Lake Minnawanna. The 723-acre park is home to a modern campground, overnight lodging, a designated swim area, a fishing pier, picnic areas, 6 miles of trails, paddling and fishing opportunities and more.


The park is located close to Seven Ponds Nature Center, Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad and Frankenmuth.

You may not possess or consume an alcoholic beverage in the park April 1 through Labor Day (unless the park manager has granted written authorization through an event permit).

Beach house

The beach house is in the day-use area on Lake Minnawanna and includes restrooms, showers and changing courts. Food concessions and rentals (row boats, kayaks, paddle boards, stand-up paddleboards, paddle boats and canoes) are also available.

Bicycle rental is available at the Metamora-Hadley Campground Store, located just north of the modern campground, April through October (dates vary). For details, reservation info and group rates, call 810-797-2300. Paddling equipment is also available for rent.

There is a boating access site on Lake Minnawanna. No-wake rules are in place.

The Metamora-Hadley Campground Store, located just north of the modern campground, sells firewood, ice, propane, ice cream, camp supplies, pizza and more. There are bike rentals too.

Lake Minnawanna is popular for bluegill, largemouth bass and pike.

There is an accessible fishing pier located in the day-use area, just north of designated swim beach.

Hunting is allowed in the state park; however, you should call this park directly to inquire about any special rules, concerns or considerations.

Metal detecting is allowed in certain park areas. Please consult the park map for designated locations and review applicable regulations. Only registered campers can metal detect in campgrounds.

The Metamora-Hadley Campground Store offers row boat, kayak, paddle board, stand-up paddleboard, paddle boat and canoe rentals from the beach house Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends (off-season hours available; check with campground store). Pet-friendly features

Pets are allowed along the Lake Minnawanna shoreline except for the designated swim beach. Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control. All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

The picnic area is in the day-use area and includes picnic tables and charcoal grills that are available first come, first served.

There is a picnic shelter located in the day-use area that includes picnic tables, charcoal grills and a modern restroom. Shelter reservations can be made 12 months in advance at MiDNRReservations.com.

There are swings, a sand volleyball court and a Gaga ball court near the designated swim beach.

The park’s sanitation station is in the modern campground. There is potable water available and two lanes.

A buoyed swim area is in the park’s day-use area. There is an accessible walkway to the water.

    The modern campground is divided into two loops and is set along Lake Minnawanna. The north loop offers some campsites on the water and is more open and grassy. The south loop is considered more wooded. A camp store is located at the entrance of the campground.

    The camper cabin is located on a bluff overlooking Lake Minnawanna in a private area in the north loop.

    The cabin sleeps six and includes an outdoor deck. There are two small bedrooms, one with a bunk bed and one with a double bed. The living room has a full-size futon, a microwave, a mini fridge, lamps and a ceiling fan. A picnic table, a fire pit and a cook grill can be found outdoors.

    A modern toilet building (shared by both camper cabins and day-use visitors) is available just a short walk away. A vault toilet is available all year.
