W.C. Wetzel Recreation Area
Spanning 913 largely undeveloped acres, W.C. Wetzel Recreation Area offers a rugged escape highlighted by 3.3 miles of hiking trails, expansive wetlands and a dedicated radio-controlled airplane field. The landscape, bisected by the winding East Branch of Coon Creek, provides a scenic backdrop for hunting, fishing, bird watching, cross-country skiing and more.
The park is named in honor of Walter Cline Wetzel, a WWII U.S. Army soldier and Medal of Honor recipient.
The primary access to the park is from a parking lot off Wederman Road (south of New Haven Road) or a secondary lot off 27 Mile Road.
