Jackson Lake State Forest Campground
Located along the edge of Jackson Lake, this rustic campground offers boating and fishing opportunities. Additionally, miles and miles of scenic hiking pathways and an off-road vehicle trail can be accessed from the campground. Great hiking and mountain biking opportunities include Clear Lake/Jackson Lake Pathway and High Country Pathway.
There are 18 sites for tent and small trailer use, 15 of which will accommodate a 40-foot long vehicle or trailer. The campground is located 6 miles north of Atlanta via M-33.
What to expect, finding a site
These rustic campgrounds offer stunning river and lakefront settings, perfect for fishing, boating, and paddling. Here's what you can expect:
- No reservations. Sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- There are vault toilets.
- Potable (drinking) water is available from a hand-pump well.
- No electrical available.
- Overnight fees ($20 for most sites) and registration procedures are posted at the information kiosk at each campground.
- Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay.
- One camping unit and six people are allowed per site.

Smallmouth bass and panfish are caught in Jackson Lake. Other nearby fishing opportunities include Clear Lake (3 miles northeast) and Rush Lake (4 miles northeast).
Hiking
Hiking opportunities include Clear Lake/Jackson Lake Pathway with 7.5 miles of rolling-to-hilly terrain and High Country Pathway with more than 70 miles of varied terrain which connect ten campgrounds. Both trails are open to non-motorized use.
Hunting
This campground provides access to state land open to hunting. Firearm hunting is not allowed within 450 feet of an occupied dwelling. Learn more about hunting.
Mountain biking
Mountain biking opportunities include Clear Lake/Jackson Lake Pathway with 7.5 miles of rolling-to-hilly terrain and High Country Pathway with more than 70 miles of varied terrain.
ORV trails or routes
The campground connects directly to the Atlanta ATV Trail (71 miles of cycle/ATV trail) and the Brush Creek Route (35 miles of full-sized vehicle ORV route). ORVs can be ridden from the campground to access these routes. All other ORV use within the campground is prohibited.
