Rapid River Trail Camp
Designed for equestrian campers, this spacious and sunny group campground, shaded by majestic oaks and pines, offers direct access to the renowned Shore-to-Shore Trail. Riders can explore 420 miles of scenic routes, including the beautiful 19.2-mile stretch to Schecks Trail Camp along a picturesque river (be aware of sandy sections). Accommodating up to 200 people, the campground features a submersible pump for water, requiring a 5,000-watt generator.
If the group will utilize multiple campgrounds along the trail, please contact the Cadillac Operations Service Center at 231-775-9727, ext. 6006. This campground is maintained with the help of the Michigan Trail Riders Association.
The campground is located 3 miles north of Kalkaska via Metzgar Road.

This campground provides access to state land open to hunting. Firearm hunting is not allowed within 450 feet of an occupied dwelling.

What to expect, finding a site
These rustic campgrounds offer stunning river and lakefront settings, perfect for fishing, boating, and paddling. Here's what you can expect:
- No reservations. Sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- There are vault toilets.
- Potable (drinking) water is available from a hand-pump well.
- No electrical available.
- Overnight fees ($20 for most sites) and registration procedures are posted at the information kiosk at each campground.
- Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay.
- One camping unit and six people are allowed per site.
