Central (Perpetrator) Registry

Names of individuals are placed on the statewide abuse and neglect Central Registry if there is a preponderance of evidence that the individual has abused or neglected their child and the future risk to the child is high or intensive (based on the structured decision making risk assessment tool).

Michigan's central registry is mandated by the Child Protection Law and is a list of perpetrators of child abuse and neglect. The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act requires states to check child abuse and neglect registries in other states in certain situations. The Michigan Child Protection Law also allows certain entities and individuals to obtain central registry information. The following outlines how central registry clearances can be requested in Michigan.
