What is the ABR (Apply for Business Resources) through the Growing MI Business grant program?
The Growing Michigan Business Grant program is a program that was created to provide grants to certain businesses in Michigan that meet certain criteria.
Legislation passed by the Michigan Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer makes available up to $409 million for the Growing MI Business Grant program.
What is the timeline for the Growing MI Business grant program?
The application portal on the website: www.michigan.gov/abr will be open on March 1, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. EST and will close at 11:59 p.m. EST on March 31, 2022.
Applications will be reviewed and awards determined, including the potential proration of the awards starting April 1, 2022.
All awards must be made by July 1, 2022.
What is a UEI number and how do I obtain one?
A Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) is used to identify business entities that do business with the federal government. Grant recipients need to register with www.sam.gov to obtain at UEI. A UEI will be requested if a business receives a Growing Mi Business grant award for $50,000 or more. If you have a DUNS number, please do not report it, as the federal government will no longer be using DUNS numbers as of April 2022.
How can a business use funding from the Growing MI Business grant?
Growing MI Business grant funds are being provided to selected Michigan businesses who experienced “financial hardship” as a result of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. Growing MI Business grant funds are to be used to address a business’ fixed costs, increased costs, reduced revenue, and/or other economic effects attributable to the public health emergency. Growing MI Business grant funds may be used for any legitimate business purpose. They may not be used to pay for personal costs, expenses, or income; and Growing MI Business grant funds also may not be used to compensate for any increased costs, reduced revenue or expenses of the business that have been or will be paid by any other government or private source of funds.
