Governor-Elect Granholm Unveils Web Site to Seek Input on State's Medicaid Issues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, November 21, 2002

LANSING - A new web site designed to collect information from consumers, providers, and insurers about issues surrounding Michigan's Medicaid system was unveiled today at a policy summit by Governor-Elect Jennifer M. Granholm.

At www.michiganmedicaid.org, interested persons will be able to offer their insights and suggestions on how to help Michigan's Medicaid system continue its mission of improving the health of recipients while remaining solvent.

"At the Medicaid Summit, we reviewed the current status of the budget, the Medicaid system and what other innovations are being implemented around the country," Granholm said. "With the web site, we've leveraged technology to engage stakeholders in the process and keep this process moving forward."

The web site will gather and continuously catalogue information from the health care community to identify specific trends. Those specific trends will help the Governor-Elect and her administration address Medicaid issues and how they impact the state's budget.

"Today's summit was the first step. The Medicaid challenge was not created overnight and it will not get fixed overnight," Granholm said. "But we're focused on bringing the entire health care community together to work on making real progress."

More than 500 stakeholders attended the Medicaid Summit today. Participants were asked to submit specific suggestions for improving the Medicaid system via the new website. The electronic system will generate regular feedback to users as information is gathered and narrowed into more specific potential policy directives.
