Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that Dana Debel, 25, of Ann Arbor will join the Governor’s executive staff as the Governor’s environmental policy advisor.
Debel is currently the executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. Previously, she worked as an environmental policy specialist and assistant at the Michigan United Conservation Clubs based in Lansing. In both of these positions, she has worked on a variety of issues, ranging from air quality to water diversion to habitat improvement, and has built strong relationships in the environmental and conservation communities.
“Even in these tight budgetary times, environmental initiatives are central to my vision for Michigan,” said the Governor. “Dana’s policy expertise is outweighed only by her commitment to protecting Michigan’s environmental treasures. State government is lucky to have her.”
Debel holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and Applications from Michigan State University. Her previous government service includes the East Lansing City Commission on the Environment where she advised the City Council. Debel has also served as a legislative assistant to State Representative John Freeman.
