Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will continue her budget tour Monday, February 17, when she appears on a special Michigan Public Radio Network statewide radio broadcast from noon until 1 p.m.
The program, in which the Governor will take calls from listeners, will originate at the WKAR public radio studio on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing. The Governor will give an overview of the budget crisis facing Michigan and listeners will have the opportunity to respond to the Governor’s presentation and ask questions. The program will be hosted by Matthew Ferguson. Listeners can call in to the broadcast toll-free at 1-877-952-7870 or in the Lansing area at 355-9527.
Granholm will continue her budget tour on Wednesday, February 19, in Detroit when she speaks at the Crain’s Detroit Business Newsmaker Luncheon at Cobo Hall starting at noon. The luncheon is being sponsored by Crain’s, the Detroit Economic Club, and the Women’s Economic Club. Approximately 1,500 people are expected to attend.
On Thursday, February 20, Granholm is scheduled to appear on the program “Ask the Governor” airing live from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on WJR 760 AM in Detroit. Granholm will be in-studio along side host Lloyd Jackson. This radio program will be another opportunity for citizens to give insight about the state budget. Listeners can call in to “Ask the Governor” at 1-800-859-0957.
Granholm’s budget tour kicked off in Jackson on Thursday in front of more than 100 business leaders, students and citizens of Jackson. After an hour long presentation, the Governor welcomed questions and comments from her audience.
Granholm said “This tour is designed to inform the people of Michigan about the severity of our state budget crisis and to receive input on what priorities are most important to them.”
Jackson area residents listed education, services to families and economic development as their most important priorities. Granholm was encouraged by her stop in Jackson and looks forward to future presentations.
“There were some very insightful ideas circulating throughout the room.” she said. “I look forward to hearing from more Michigan citizens about this critical issue.
Granholm’s 2004 budget is scheduled to be presented to state lawmakers on Thursday, March 6.
