Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Gary Torgow to the MEDC Executive Committee, which exercises the powers of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He joins the 17-member committee as a representative of the private sector.
Torgow, of Detroit, is chairman and CEO of the Sterling Group, a real estate firm. He is also a partner with Kern Woodward Associates and chairman of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. Torgow fills the vacancy left by former Governor Engler who resigned prior to leaving office. His term expires on April 5, 2007.
“Gary is a leader in the business and civic community in Southeast Michigan,” said Governor Granholm. “He’ll be a great partner in the important work of the MEDC in securing Michigan’s success in attracting business, jobs, and in growing our economy.”
