Governor Granholm Appoints Sharon Gire Director of the Office of Services to the Aging

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Sharon Gire as Director of the Office of Services to the Aging. Gire, of Clinton Township, is currently vice president of the State Board of Education and will resign her elected post today.
Gire will take her oath of office today before Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh at 1:30 p.m. in the Macomb County Clerk’s Office located at 40 North Main, 1st floor, Mt. Clemens.
“In her new position, Sharon will continuously work to help protect and care for Michigan’s seniors,” Granholm said. “She will play a pivotal role in moving Michigan forward in caring for Michigan seniors of today and tomorrow.”
Gire served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1987 to 1998 where she was responsible for the development of policy in education, child and family welfare, and health care. Gire also served as the associate speaker pro tempore.
She holds a master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s of science degree in education from Ohio State University.
This position is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
