LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that F. Thomas Lewand has been named to the Civil Service Commission.
“Tom has displayed his commitment to public service in a wide variety of areas for many years” Granholm said. “Through his experience in law, business, and government, I am confident that his unwavering dedication to this state will bring a unique perspective to the commission.”
Lewand, of Birmingham, is a partner of Bodman, Longley & Dahling LLP where he specializes in public finance law. He has vast experience advising governments on financial issues, including his critical work in developing the agreements that brought the Detroit Lions’ new stadium back to downtown Detroit. Lewand serves as chairman of the University of Detroit Mercy Board of Trustees and is on nine other corporate and community boards.
Lewand served as Governor James Blanchard’s chief of staff and later held the post of chairman of the State Democratic Party.
Lewand earned his law degree from Wayne State University Law School and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Lewand’s term will expire December 31, 2004 and is not subject to Senate confirmation.
