Governor Granholm Appoints Ann Jousma-Miller to the Commission of Agriculture

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm recently announced the appointment of Ann Jousma-Miller to the Commission of Agriculture. Jousma-Miller, of Gladstone, is owner and manager of Kipling House Bed and Breakfast in Delta County. She has over 22 years of experience serving as a liaison between state legislators and Upper Peninsula organizations concerned with agricultural issues and also served as a regional representative for Michigan Farm Bureau for 10 years.

"Ann Jousma-Miller’s background as a regional representative for the Michigan Farm Bureau and her in-depth knowledge of Upper Peninsula issues will serve her well on the Commission of Agriculture," Granholm said. "Agricultural products and services rank among the top three industries in our state and have a significant impact on our state’s economy."

The commission provides oversight and executive direction for the programs administered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and is responsible for approving all rules and regulations promulgated by the department.

Ms. Jousma-Miller is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring December 31, 2007. She succeeds Nora Viau whose term has expired.

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the senate.
