Governor Granholm Appoints Members to Michigan Merit Award Board

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the recent appointments of Penelope Bailer and Carolyn Hart to the Michigan Merit Award Board.
Bailer, of Detroit, is the executive director of City Year Detroit. She was appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2007, and succeeds Clark Durant whose term has expired.
Hart, of Rockford, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2007, and succeeds Kathleen Barclay whose term has expired.
The board is responsible for increasing access to post-secondary education in the state, as well as rewarding Michigan high school graduates who have demonstrated academic achievement.
These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
