LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today released the following statement regarding her decision to commute the sentence of Maurice Henry Carter, Inmate #145902:
"Today, after reviewing documents prepared by my legal staff, I decided to commute the sentence of Maurice Henry Carter. This decision is based upon the Parole Board’s recommendation for commutation, a review of medical records that reveal Carter’s serious medical condition and rapidly deteriorating state of health, statements of support from Berrien County Prosecutor Jim Cherry and Berrien County Judge John Hammond, and testimony and recordings presented during the Parole Board’s public hearing."
