Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Michigan Board of Counseling

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following recent appointments to the Michigan Board of Counseling:

Suzanne M. Hobson of Ypsilanti, associate professor for the Department of Leadership and Counseling at Eastern Michigan University, appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in teaching, training, or research in counseling for a term commencing July 1, 2004, and expiring June 30, 2008. She succeeds John S. Geisler whose term will expire June 30, 2004.

Stuart G. Itzkowitz of Grosse Pointe Park, senior lecturer and university counselor for Wayne State University, appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventative techniques to clients for a term expiring June 30, 2007. He succeeds John Rinke whose term has expired.

Delila L. Owens, Ph.D. of Lansing, school counselor for Eastern High School, appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventative techniques to clients for a term expiring June 30, 2007. She succeeds Linda Michaels whose term has expired.

Harriet A. Singleton of Kentwood, senior counselor and coordinator of multicultural counseling at Grand Valley State University, appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventative techniques to clients for a term commencing July 1, 2004, and expiring June 30, 2008. She succeeds Jack Cloud whose term will expire June 30, 2004.

Robbie J. Steward of Okemos, professor and director of the master’s counseling program at Michigan State University, appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in teaching, training, or research in counseling for a term expiring June 30, 2005. She succeeds Richard Sinacola who has resigned.

The board is responsible for the licensure and examination of professional counselors of the state prior to their entry into the practice of counseling. The board also has the authority to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public's health, safety and welfare.

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
