Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Michigan Board of Medicine

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments to the Michigan Board of Medicine:
Jeffrey M. Jones, M.D. of Battle Creek, a physician with Neurology of Battle Creek. Dr. Jones is appointed to represent physicians for a term expiring December 31, 2005. He succeeds Russell LaBeau who has resigned.
Leticia J. San Diego, Ph.D. of Clinton Township, president and consultant of Healthcare Management Development Center. Dr. San Diego is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2005. She succeeds Tonya Schuitmaker who has resigned.
The Michigan Board of Medicine examines and licenses persons prior to their entry into the practice of allopathic medicine in Michigan. It is responsible for establishing minimal standards of acceptable practice and assessing penalties for when those standards are not met. The board also recommends licensure to schools or individuals once the designated exam, which is created by the board, is passed.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. The appointments stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
