Governor Granholm Appoints Hertel to Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority Board of Commissioners

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of John C. Hertel, of Lenox Township, to the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority Board of Commissioners.  Hertel, general manager of the Michigan State Fair and Exposition Center, served as chairman of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners from 1985 to1986 and as a state Senator from 1974 to 1983.

Mr. Hertel is appointed to represent electors of the metropolitan district for the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority for a term expiring May 2, 2009.  He succeeds Peter S. Walters whose term has expired.

The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority facilitates the operation and maintenance of parks, connecting drives, and limited access highways within the metropolitan district that includes Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. The authority has the ability to collect fees and charges for the usage of facilities under its control.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval.
