Governor Granholm Appoints Christine White Racing Commissioner

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Christine C. White as racing commissioner.  Ms. White, of Bancroft, has served as interim racing commissioner in January. 

Ms. White most recently served as deputy director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and is a former administrative officer with the United States Department of Agriculture Veterinary Services.  She holds a bachelors of arts in political science from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame.

Ms. White is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  She succeeds Racing Commissioner R. Robert Geake, whose term expired on December 31, 2004.

As racing commissioner, White will ensure the enforcement of rules and regulations governing the conduct, safety, security, growth and integrity of pari-mutuel wagering and horseracing in this state. 

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  The appointment stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
