Governor Granholm Appoints Geskey to the Michigan Employment Security Board of Review

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Stephen M. Geskey to the Michigan Employment Security Board of Review.
Mr. Geskey, of Lansing, most recently served as assistant attorney general with the Michigan Department of Attorney General. He earned his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.
Mr. Geskey is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2008. He succeeds Mary Katherine Markman whose term has expired.
The Michigan Employment Security Board of Review hears and decides appeals of the Unemployment Insurance Agency and referees’ decisions and orders connected with claims for unemployment compensation for federal workers, state employees, veterans, and industrial and commercial workers. The board also hears and decides appeals concerning the tax liability and assessment of employers under the Michigan Employment Security Act.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. The appointment stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
