LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments to the Qualifications Advisory Committee, the Occupational Health Standards Commission, the Michigan Board of Counseling, and the State Community Corrections Board:
Qualifications Advisory Committee
Phillip L. Gilliam of Detroit, attorney and director of the UAW Unemployment Clinic with the International Union. Mr. Gilliam is reappointed to represent employee interests for a term expiring October 1, 2009.
Jeffery V. Stuckey of Okemos, attorney and member of Dickenson Wright, PLLC. Mr. Stuckey is reappointed to represent employer interests for a term expiring October 1, 2009.
The Qualifications Advisory Committee reviews and rates applicants interested in serving on the Worker’s Compensation Board of Magistrates and Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval.
Occupational Health Standards Commission
David L. Glynn of Decatur, human resources manager at Special-Lite, Inc. Mr. Glynn is appointed to represent management of principle industries in the state with 200 or less employees for a term expiring August 5, 2008. He succeeds Michael Lucas whose term has expired.
Ricardo L. Longoria of Saginaw, training and safety officer with the Saginaw Fire Department. Mr. Longoria is appointed to represent labor and public employees of the state for a term expiring August 5, 2006. He succeeds Michael McCabe whose term has expired.
John E. Miller of Kawkawlin, Bay County Sheriff. Sheriff Miller is appointed to represent public employers of the state for a term expiring August 5, 2006. He succeeds Douglas Williams whose term has expired.
Gary R. Novak of Brighton, health, safety, and environmental manager at TRW Automotive. Mr. Novak is appointed to represent management of principle industries in the state for a term expiring August 5, 2008. He succeeds Robert DeBruyn whose term has expired.
Margaret Robinson Faville of Muskegon, secretary and treasurer of Service Employees International Union Local 79. Ms. Faville is appointed to represent labor for a term expiring August 5, 2007. She succeeds Cynthia Holland whose term has expired.
Satyam R. Talati of Holt, associate attorney with Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss, P.C.. Mr. Talati is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 5, 2007. He succeeds Darryl Lesoski whose term has expired.
Ronald J. Torbert of West Bloomfield, vice president and general council of Barton Malow Company. Mr. Torbert is appointed to represent management of principle industries in the state for a term expiring August 5, 2008. He succeeds Richard Olsen whose term has expired.
The Occupational Health Standards Commission assists the Division of Occupational Health in the Department of Labor and Economic Growth in developing occupational health standards.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. The appointment stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Board of Counseling
Jack L. Cloud of Bloomfield Hills, counselor and consultant in private practice with Lakeside Family Counseling. Mr. Cloud is appointed to represent individuals engaged in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventative techniques to clients for a term expiring June 30, 2009. He succeeds Lawrence A. Pfaff whose term has expired.
Robbie J. Steward of Okemos, professor and director of the master’s counseling program at Michigan State University. Ms. Steward is reappointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in teaching, training, or research in counseling for a term expiring June 30, 2009.
The Michigan Board of Counseling is responsible for the licensure and examination of professional counselors in the state prior to their entry into the practice of counseling. The board also has the authority to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
State Community Corrections Board
Dennis J. McMurray of Grand Rapids, senior pastor at Renaissance Church of God in Christ. Pastor McMurray is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 29, 2009. He succeeds Michael Nye whose term has expired.
The State Community Corrections Board advises the Director of Corrections in developing goals, criteria and guidelines for local governments in establishing community corrections programs. It also determines grant guidelines for comprehensive corrections plans, which are intended to provide safe, cost-effective alternatives to incarceration.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
