Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments to the Strategic Fund Board of Directors, Commission on Services to the Aging, Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Board of Dentistry, Board of Accountancy, and Michigan Food Policy Council:

Michigan Strategic Fund Board of Directors

James C. Epolito of East Lansing, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.  Mr. Epolito is appointed to represent persons with knowledge, skill, and experience in academic, business, or financial fields for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.  He succeeds Donald E. Jakeway who has resigned.

Richard E. Rassel, Jr. of Birmingham, chairman and CEO of Butzel Long Attorneys and Counselors.  Mr. Rassel is appointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring December 31, 2005.  He succeeds Gregory C. Burkart who has resigned.

The Michigan Strategic Fund Board of Directors serves as the state’s lead business development and finance agency.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Commission on Services to the Aging

Cheryl J. Bollinger of Mason, program director for SEIU 517M.  Ms. Bollinger is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring July 28, 2008.  She succeeds Jewel C. Ware whose term has expired.

Annette C. Guilfoyle of Grand Rapids, public information officer for the city of Grand Rapids.  Ms. Guilfoyle is appointed to represent Independents for a term expiring July 28, 2008.  She succeeds Dona J. Wishart whose term has expired.

Chun-Keung Leung of Bloomfield Hills, retired program manager for Delphi.  Mr. Leung is appointed to represent Independents for a term expiring July 28, 2008.  He succeeds Liana Bachand whose term has expired.

Thomas G. Rau of Brighton, owner of Nexcare Health Systems, LLC.  Mr. Rau is appointed to represent Republicans for a term expiring July 28, 2008.  He succeeds Christina L. Clark whose term has expired.

William H. Walters, II of Brown City, Sanilac County commissioner.  Mr. Walters is appointed to represent Republicans for a term expiring July 28, 2008.  He succeeds Robert W. Litkke whose term has expired.

The Commission on Services to the Aging advises the Office of Services to the Aging, the Governor, and the Legislature on matters related to policies and program  for elderly and aging persons in Michigan.  The commission also promotes senior citizen interests within state government and communities and administers federal Older Americans Act programs and state-funded programs.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Board of Marriage and Family Therapy

Diane M. Jordan, M.S.W. of Wyoming, licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice.  Ms. Jordan is appointed to represent licensed marriage and family therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Dorothy Harper Jones whose term has expired.

Deborah Urbach Warsh, M.S.W, A.C.S.W. of Bloomfield Hills, clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist with Oakland Family Services.  Ms. Urbach Warsh is appointed to represent licensed marriage and family therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  She succeeds Tracey L. Stulberg whose term has expired.

Anita Taylor, M.A., L.M.F.T. of Bloomfield Hills, psychologist and marriage and family therapist in private practice.  Ms. Taylor is reappointed to represent licensed marriage and family therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2009.

The Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is responsible for promoting the rules setting minimal standards of acceptable practices and assessing penalties when those standards are not met.  The board is also responsible for the recommendation of licensure to schools or individuals that have passed the designated exam, created by the board.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

Jonathon M. Arend of Owosso, consultant pharmacist with Specialized Pharmacy Services, Inc.  Mr. Arend is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2007.

Justus J. Fiechtner, M.D., M.P.H. of Okemos, physician and rheumatologist in private practice.  Dr. Fiechtner is reappointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 1, 2007.

Dean A. Van Loo of Kalamazoo, assistant professor of pharmacy practice for Ferris State University at Bronson Methodist Hospital.  Mr. Van Loo is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2007.

The Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee advises the Department of Community Health on issues affecting prescription drug coverage for its various health care programs.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval.

Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery

Douglas P. Vanator, D.O. of Olivet, osteopathic physician and surgeon in private practice.  Dr. Vanator is appointed to represent osteopathic physicians for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds Michelle Keys whose term has expired.

The Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into the practice of osteopathic medicine and surgery in Michigan.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Board of Dentistry

Rosetta Sanders of Battle Creek, former employee of the Michigan Department of Education.  Ms. Sanders is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2008.  She succeeds Colleen M. McClorey whose term has expired.

The Michigan Board of Dentistry is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental assisting in Michigan, and for the certification of dental specialists.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

State Board of Accountancy

Ellen S. Cogen Lipton of Huntington Woods, owner of iProp Co-counsel.  Ms. Cogen Lipton is appointed to represent the general public as an attorney who is a member in good standing of the state bar for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  She succeeds Lawrence R. Donaldson whose term has expired.

The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration, and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms, and corporations.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Food Policy Council

Daniel H. Reeves of Dearborn, executive vice president of the Associated Food Dealers of Michigan.  Mr. Reeves is appointed to represent food retailers for a term expiring June 6, 2007.

The goals of the Michigan Food Policy Council include: expanding businesses and jobs across food-related sectors in the state; increasing access to fresh and healthy Michigan grown foods, including for small children, low-income families, at-risk seniors, and inner-city residents; promoting the purchase and consumption of Michigan-grown and Michigan-processed foods; and identifying strategies to enhance connections between Michigan growers and Michigan food outlets.
