January 31, 2006
LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on Coretta Scott King who has passed away at the age of 78:
“Coretta Scott King was a woman of incomparable grace who dedicated her life as her husband did – to civil rights, human rights, international peace, and economic justice. She made certain, perhaps more than any other single person, that Dr. King’s dream will never die. To honor her legacy – a legacy highlighted by a national holiday honoring the January 15 birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., – we must pledge to foster unity and diversity in every walk of life to ensure a society that values opportunity for all.”
