Granholm Appoints John E. Fitzgerald Judge of Montmorency County Probate Court

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Mr. John E. Fitzgerald judge of the Montmorency County Probate Court.

Fitzgerald, of Hillman, most recently worked as an attorney with Gillard, Bauer, Mazrum, Florip, Smigelski & Gulden law firm.  His long-standing legal career includes serving as chief assistant prosecuting attorney for the county of Kalamazoo from 1968 to 1971; district court judge for the city of Kalamazoo from 1975 to 1980; and circuit court judge for the county of Kalamazoo from 1981 to 1985.  

Mr. Fitzgerald earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Law School and graduated from the University of Detroit.  His participation in civic organizations includes serving as a board member for the Alpena General Hospital Development Council, the Hillman Community Education Foundation, and the Boy Scouts of America, as well as being involved with the Lion’s Club and Knights of Columbus. 
   
Fitzgerald is appointed to serve for a term expiring at twelve noon on January 1, 2007.   He succeeds the Honorable Michael G. Mack who has resigned.
