Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the State Board of Accountancy, and the Board of Professional Surveyors:
Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs
Brenda Biederman of Traverse City, philanthropist. Ms. Biederman is appointed for a term expiring September 1, 2008. She succeeds Alphonse S. Lucarelli whose term has expired.
Cindy Ornstein of Flint, president and CEO of the Flint Cultural Center Corporation. Ms. Ornstein is appointed for a term expiring September 1, 2008. She succeeds Karen E. Smith whose term has expired.
Mark T. Putney of Hickory Corners, retired, former owner of The Putney Company. Mr. Putney is appointed for a term expiring September 1, 2008. He succeeds Kurt Dewhurst whose term has expired.
Vivian Rogers Pickard of Bloomfield Hills, director of corporate relations for General Motors Corporation. Ms. Pickard is appointed for a term expiring September 1, 2008. She succeeds Victoria Jennings Ross whose term has expired.
James M. Garavaglia of Ann Arbor, senior vice president of Comerica Incorporated. Mr. Garavaglia is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2008.
The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs serves to encourage, develop, and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative, and cultural activity in Michigan.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
State Board of Accountancy
Beth A. Bialy of Carleton, audit partner and certified public accountant with Plante & Moran, PLLC. Ms. Bialy is reappointed to represent certified public accountants for a term commencing July 1, 2006 and expiring June 30, 2010.
Stephen H. Epstein of West Bloomfield, certified public accountant, formerly with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Epstein is reappointed to represent certified public accountants for a term commencing July 1, 2006 and expiring June 30, 2010.
The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration, and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms, and corporations.
These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Board of Professional Surveyors
Carolyn S. Charters of Traverse City, self-employed with Charters Consulting/L.A.N.D. Curriculum. Ms. Charters is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 31, 2010.
The Board of Professional Surveyors provides for the registration of persons practicing surveying, sets qualifications for registrants, and prescribes penalties for violations of the Occupational Code, 1980 Public Act 299.
This reappointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
