Governor Granholm Makes Appointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today made the following appointments to the Appellate Defender Commission and the Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management:
Appellate Defender Commission
Douglas J. Messing of Wixom, senior research supervisor for the Michigan Court of Appeals. Mr. Messing is appointed to represent members recommended by the Michigan Court of Appeals for a term expiring May 24, 2010. He succeeds Allan Falk whose term has expired.
The Appellate Defender Commission is responsible for developing a system of appellate defense services for those who can afford no other representation. They also develop a set of minimum standards to which those services must conform.
Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management
Lawrence L. Prokop, D.O. of East Lansing, associate professor with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Prokop is appointed to represent the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2007. He succeeds Henry E. Beckmeyer III whose term has expired.
The Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management is charged with addressing issues pertaining to pain and symptom management, holding public hearings to gather information from the general public, and making recommendations to the Legislature.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
