Governor Granholm Makes Reappointments to Michigan Apple Marketing Program Committee

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent reappointments to the Michigan Apple Marketing Program Committee:
Alvin F. Dietrich of Conklin, owner of Ridgeview Orchards. Mr. Dietrich is reappointed to represent growers from District 3 for a term expiring April 1, 2009.
Mark A Doherty of Traverse City, partner and horticulturist for Russell Ridge Farms. Mr. Doherty is reappointed to represent growers from District 6 for a term expiring April 1, 2009.
"The aggressive promotion of Michigan food products here and abroad continues to expand our markets and grow the state's economy," Granholm said. "The Michigan Apple Committee plays an important role in Michigan's dynamic $60.1 billion agriculture industry, while working to support healthy communities."
The Michigan Apple Michigan Marketing Program Committee represents farm families involved in the growing, packing, shipping, and processing of Michigan apples. The committee prescribes rules and regulations, creates advertising and promotional programs, and establishes and supports research designed to improve the overall effectiveness of the program.
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
