Governor Granholm Statement on Death of Dr. Rachel Keith
January 04, 2007
January 4, 2007
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm issued the following statement on the death of Dr. Rachel Keith today:
"It is with profound sadness today that I learned of the death of Dr. Rachel Keith - a friend and role model and the life's love of my closest mentor, Judge Damon Keith. I feel privileged to have spent time with Dr. Keith just three days ago in Lansing, marveling again at the stories of her 49 years of medical practice during a time when women and African Americans were not accepted as physicians. The state has lost a remarkable, trail-blazing, courageous woman; Judge Keith has lost a part of his heart. On behalf of my family, I want to extend our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to Judge Keith, his daughters, and their families."
