First Gentleman Mulhern Salutes Three Michigan Companies for Making Fortune Magazine's "Best 100 Workplaces" List

January 10, 2007

LANSING - From a record number of women serving in executive roles to a Black-Eyed Peas concert at the home of a CEO, great workplace practices have landed three Michigan-based companies on Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list.

Livonia-based Quicken Loans is listed as #17, Southfield-based Plante & Moran is #32, and at #55 is the Midland-based Dow Corning Company.  S.C. Johnson & Sons, with operations in Bay City, also made the list.

Named as the number one best company to work for is Google, which has located its AdWorks sales and operations center in Ann Arbor.

First Gentleman Dan Mulhern called the Michigan CEOs to congratulate them for their excellence.

"What all these companies have in common is a conscientious effort to make their business a great workplace, and the result is a great business," said Mulhern.

Mulhern spearheaded the Office of Great Workplace Development in 2003 to bring out the "best of the best" in the state of Michigan.  Mulhern has hosted corporate leaders of Michigan companies who have made the Fortune list, and they shared their best practices with state employees and leaders.

Mulhern is currently leading an effort to put these best practices to work for Michigan businesses, helping to move the state rapidly toward the Next Michigan, outlined by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm in her 2007 Inaugural Address.

"Our goals are to identify what put these companies on top and to apply those lessons to help Michigan companies excel and make Michigan a magnet for more of them" Mulhern said.
