LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointment and reappointment to the Board of State Canvassers:
Shelly J. Edgerton of Plainwell, deputy Senate majority counsel for the Michigan Senate Majority Policy Office. Ms. Edgerton was nominated by the State Central Committee of the Michigan Republican Party and is appointed to represent Republicans for a term commencing February 1, 2007, and expiring January 31, 2011. She succeeds Katherine J. DeGrow whose term expires January 31, 2007.
Erane C. Washington-Kendrick of Ypsilanti, attorney for the law firm of Erane C. Washington-Kendrick, PLLC. Ms. Washington-Kendrick was nominated by the State Central Committee of the Michigan Democratic Party and is reappointed for a term expiring January 31, 2011.
The Board of State Canvassers determines the result of all elections for governor, lieutenant governor, state officers, and such other officers as prescribed by the law. Under the Michigan Election Law, the governor is obligated to appoint one of three individuals nominated by the State Central Committee of the Michigan Democratic and Republican Parties as a member of the Board of State Canvassers by January 20, 2007.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
