Governor Granholm Statement on Chrysler Group Recovery and Transformation Plan

February 14, 2007
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the Chrysler Group Recovery and Transformation Plan:
"Chrysler's decision to reduce capacity and downsize its workforce is a tough blow to employees and their families who will be affected by the decision, a decision that was market-driven in the face of tough global competition and continued refusal of the Bush administration to advance American manufacturers' ability to compete or at least keep the playing field level for our automakers.
"We will be marshalling our resources to help those workers and continue our work with the company as it strengthens its business model. The company is committed to investing $3 billion in its powertrain operations, for which Michigan is well-positioned. As the company makes every effort to return to profitability, we will work with Daimler Chrysler both here and in Germany to ensure it continues to be a major employer of tens of thousands of men and women here in Michigan."
