Governor Granholm Appoints Joe W. Byrd to Michigan Boxing Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Joe W. Byrd to the Michigan Boxing Commission. Byrd, of Flint, is the amateur and professional coach of Joe Byrd Boxing Academy. Byrd also coached the United States boxing team that traveled to Barcelona for the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Mr. Byrd is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring February 19, 2011. He succeeds Rene Muniz whose term has expired.
The Michigan Boxing Commission was created by the Michigan Boxing Regulatory Act and is charged with licensing and regulating professional and amateur boxing, sparring, and wrestling exhibitions in the state of Michigan.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
