LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the business tax plan unveiled by the House Democratic Caucus:
"This is a good compromise that incorporates key elements of my business tax proposal. It is revenue neutral and fair. The plan provides incentives for businesses to locate in Michigan and is similar to the tax structure in other states. It reduces the personal property tax burden for manufacturers, and removes compensation and health care from the base of the tax.
"We look forward to working through the details of this plan as it moves through the Legislature. Having a strong compromise on the SBT replacement means we can turn our full attention to resolving the rest of the gaping hole in Michigan's budget."
