Governor Granholm Appoints Alexander C. Lipsey Judge of 9th Circuit Court

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of former State Representative Alexander C. Lipsey as judge of the 9th Circuit Court in Kalamazoo County for a term expiring January 1, 2009. He replaces Judge Philip Schaefer who has resigned.
Lipsey, of Kalamazoo, recently served as general counsel to the House of Representatives after serving three terms in the Michigan House. Additionally, he served five years as standing Chapter 7 Trustee; as a private practice bankruptcy attorney and trustee; an attorney for the UAW GM Legal Services Plan; Kalamazoo city commissioner; and vice-mayor of Kalamazoo. His participation in civic organizations includes YMCA board member, NAACP past branch president, and elder of North Presbyterian Church.
Lipsey earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan and his bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
