Granholm Appoints Bryant-Weekes Judge of 36th District Court

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Ms. Esther "Lynise" Bryant-Weekes as judge of the 36th District Court, which serves Detroit, for a term expiring January 1, 2009. She replaces the late Judge Jeanette O'Banner-Owens.
Bryant-Weekes, of Detroit, most recently served as solo practitioner and hearing officer for the City of Detroit Department of Administrative Hearings. Previously, she served as the director of personnel for the City of Detroit Police Department. She is chair of the Emmanuel Community Services Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Wolverine Bar Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Bryant-Weekes earned her law degree from Wayne State University and her bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
