LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Michigan Travel Commission
Jim M. Berryman of Adrian, Uniserv director of Michigan Education Association, is appointed for a term expiring August 20, 2010. He succeeds Gregory F. Golab whose term has expired.
Rochelle A. Cotey of Munising, executive director of ALTRAN, is appointed for a term expiring August 20, 2008. She succeeds Michael A. Lahti who has resigned.
Roger A. Curtis of Onstead, president of International Speedway, is appointed to represent the private sector of the travel, tourism, and recreation industry for a term expiring August 20, 2011. He succeeds W. Brett Shelton who has resigned.
Jerry L. Preston of Flint, president of the Flint Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, is appointed to represent the travel industry for a term expiring August 20, 2009. He succeeds Frederick Feliciano whose term has expired.
Tanya M. Heidelberg of Wayne County, president of Motown Center, is reappointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring August 20, 2011.
Frank Taylor of Northville Township, president of Sweet Georgia Brown, is reappointed to represent small businesses in the private sector for a term expiring August 20, 2011.
The commission is responsible for assisting Travel Michigan in developing a comprehensive, long-range vision for tourism. Travel Michigan is an agency housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) that promotes tourism within the State of Michigan.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC)
Breannah R. Alexander of Saginaw, co-president of the Saginaw Community Foundations Youth Advisory Council and member of the Michigan Community Foundations Youth Project, is appointed to represent individuals between the ages of 16 and 25 who are participants or supervisors in programs as defined in section 101 of title I, 42 U.S.C. 12511 for a term expiring October 1, 2010. She succeeds Kari M. Pardoe whose term has expired.
Antoine L. Campbell of Rockford, vice president of community investment of Heart of West Michigan United Way, is appointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009. He succeeds Kathy Young-Welch who has resigned.
Lloyd H. Jackson of Southfield, assistant news director for WJR, is appointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2010. He succeeds Brenda L. Lawrence whose term has expired.
Lori A. Jewell of Kalamazoo, public affairs supervisor for State Farm, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring October 1, 2010. She succeeds Wendy Acho whose term has expired.
Joseph M. Lubig of Marquette, instructor for the School of Education at Northern Michigan University, is appointed to represent local educators for a term expiring October 1, 2008. He succeeds Laurie A. Stupak who has resigned.
M. Elizabeth Bunn of Detroit, secretary-treasurer of the International Union- UAW, is reappointed to represent local labor organizations for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
Jerry L. Seese of Saginaw, superintendent of Saginaw Township Community Schools, is reappointed to represent local educators and superintendents for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
The MCSC is a bipartisan state agency charged with funding and supporting programs to encourage Michigan residents to volunteer. The commission is chaired by First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Fire Fighters Training Council
Michael R. Cousins of Saginaw, fire chief for Thomas Township Fire Department, is appointed from a list submitted by the Michigan Fire Service Instructors Association for a term expiring December 31, 2010. He succeeds William D. Anderson whose term has expired.
Timothy A. James of Vermontville, assistant fire chief for the Lansing Fire Department, is appointed from a list submitted by the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs for a term expiring December 31, 2010. He succeeds Dan H. Henderson whose term has expired.
Randal Agruda of Williamsburg, general manager of The Collision Center and public information officer/fire lieutenant with Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, is reappointed from a list submitted by the Michigan Municipal League for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Clifford Messing of Ruth, president of Cliff A. Messing Excavating Inc. and chief of Delaware Township Fire Department, is reappointed from a list submitted by the State Firemen's Association for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Kevin Pirlot of Iron Mountain, lieutenant with the Iron Mountain Fire Department and 1st District vice president for the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union, is reappointed from a list submitted by the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
The council is responsible for establishing standards, courses of study, certification of instructors, regional training centers, and developing and administering mandatory certification examinations for firefighters in this state.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management
M. Jean Friend of St Johns, state of Michigan retiree, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring July 1, 2009. She succeeds J. Kay Felt whose term has expired.
Daniel J. Clauw, M.D. of Ann Arbor, assistant dean of clinical and translational research and professor of medicine with the University of Michigan Division of Rheumatology, is reappointed to represent the University of Michigan School of Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2009.
Frenchie D. McCall of Farmington Hills, retired clinical social worker, is appointed to represent individuals who have been diagnosed as chronic pain sufferers for a term expiring July 1, 2009.
Karen S. Ogle, M.D. of East Lansing, professor with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, is appointed to represent Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2009.
Lawrence L. Prokop, D.O. of East Lansing, associate professor with the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, is reappointed to represent the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2009.
Maria J. Silveira, M.D., M.A., M.P.H. of Ann Arbor, assistant professor with the University of Michigan Division of General Medicine, is appointed to represent the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Association for a term expiring July 1, 2009.
The Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management is charged with addressing issues pertaining to pain and symptom management, holding public hearings to gather information from the general public, and making recommendations to the Legislature.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
