LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Construction Safety Standards Commission
Kathleen S. Dobson of Kimball, safety manager for Alberici Constructors, is appointed to represent members actively engaged in construction operations at the management level for a term expiring March 18, 2009. She succeeds Timothy B. Wise who has resigned.
Valerie J. Bradley of Flushing, vice president of administration and safety director for Dee Cramer, Inc., is reappointed to represent management and persons actively engaged in construction operations on the management level for a term expiring March 18, 2010.
D. Lynn Coleman of Ashley, training director for the Michigan Laborers Training and Apprenticeship Institute, is reappointed to represent labor and persons actively engaged in construction operations on the employee level for a term expiring March 18, 2011.
Patrick F. Gleason of Davison, president of the Michigan State Building and Construction Trades Council, is reappointed to represent individuals actively engaged in construction operations on the employee level for a term expiring March 18, 2010.
Gregg A. Newsom of Milford, retired training director for Operating Engineers Local 324 Journeyman & Apprentice Training Fund, Inc., is reappointed to represent labor and persons actively engaged in construction operations on the employee level for a term expiring March 18, 2011.
Larry T. Redfearn of Southfield, administrative supervisor and lead general foreman for the Detroit Public School District, is reappointed to represent those actively engaged in construction operations on the employee level (public employees) for a term expiring March 18, 2009.
Donald V. Staley of Lowell, safety manager for The Christman Company, is reappointed to represent management and persons actively engaged in construction operations on the management level for a term expiring March 18, 2011.
The Construction Safety Standards Commission provides rules and establishes safety standards for construction operations to protect the life and safety of construction workers in Michigan.
Michigan Employment Security Board of Review
Mark E. Kaufmann of Ypsilanti, current member of the Michigan Employment Security Board of Review, is reappointed to represent employee interests in this state for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Neal A. Young of Grand Rapids, current member of the Michigan Employment Security Board of Review, is reappointed to represent employer interests in this state for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Employment Security Board of Review hears and decides appeals of the Unemployment Agency, referees decisions and/or orders connected with claims for unemployment compensation for federal workers, state employees, veterans, and industrial and commercial workers. The board also hears and decides appeals concerning the tax liability and assessment of employers under the Michigan Employment Security Act.
These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
State Exposition and Fairgrounds Authority Board
Mr. Larry D. Alexander an independent of Troy, president and CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, is appointed to represent the tourism industry for a term expiring February 28, 2010. He succeeds Edward Deeb whose term has expired.
Mr. Erwin J. Brown an independent of Munger, executive director of the Michigan Association of Fairs & Exhibitions, is appointed to represent county fairs for a term expiring February 28, 2009. He succeeds Thomas L. Valliere whose term has expired.
Reverend Loyce D. Lester a Democrat of Detroit, pastor of Original New Grace Missionary Baptist Church and consultant with the public relations department of Ford Motor Company, is appointed to represent the business community for a term expiring February 28, 2011. He succeeds Karen Batchelor who has resigned.
Pat G. Albright a Republican of Coldwater, owner of Albright Swine Farms, is reappointed to represent agricultural interests for a term expiring February 28, 2010.
Kenneth J. DeCock an independent of Armada, partner of DeCock and Sons, LLC and owner of Boyka's Farm Market, is reappointed to represent agricultural interests for a term expiring February 28, 2011.
Elaine C. Driker a Democrat of Detroit, former director of the Detroit Orientation Institute at Wayne State University, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 28, 2011.
Robert G. Porter a Democrat of Ferndale, former city of Ferndale mayor, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 28, 2010.
The State Exposition and Fairgrounds Authority Board is a bipartisan panel responsible for sponsoring the Michigan State Fair and for promoting additional year-round events at the site. The group is also charged with the development and submission, on a yearly basis, of a rolling 5-year operational plan to the Department of Management and Budget, the Legislature, and the governor.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
