Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments (7/2/08)

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Michigan Apple Marketing Program Committee

Gary F. Bartley of Dowagiac, owner of Bartley Farms, is appointed to represent District 1 growers for a term expiring April 1, 2011.  He succeeds Donald H. Baiers whose term has expired.

Kevin R. Winkel of Lawrence, owner of Winkel Farms, is appointed to represent District 2 growers for a term expiring April 1, 2011.  He succeeds Robert A. Colgren whose term has expired.

Michael J. Beck of St. Johns, president of Uncle John's Cider Mill, Inc., is reappointed to represent District 7 growers for a term expiring April 1, 2011.

The committee represents farm families involved in the growing, packing, shipping and processing of Michigan apples.  It prescribes rules and regulations, creates advertising and promotional programs, and establishes and supports research designed to improve the overall effectiveness of the program.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Asparagus Marketing Program Advisory Board

Eugene M. Kokx, II of Hart, owner of Eugene Kokx Farms, L.L.C., is reappointed to represents growers from northern-central Michigan for a term expiring November 13, 2009. 

Sarah J. Greiner of Hart, owner of Todd Greiner Farms, is reappointed to represent northern-central growers for a term expiring November 13, 2010. 

Frederick J. Tubbs of Hart, owner of Tubbs Orchards, is reappointed to represent northern-central growers for a term expiring November 13, 2010.    

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee

Scott E. Cary of Alma, president of Cary's Pioneer Farms, Inc., is reappointed to represent cattle feeders for a term expiring May 31, 2011.   

Randy D. Heselschwerdt of Jackson, manager of Napoleon Livestock Commission Co., is reappointed to represent cattle marketers for a term expiring May 31, 2011.   

Garry L. Wiley of Gladwin, owner of G & Triple J. Farms, is reappointed to represent cattle breeders for a term expiring May 31, 2011. 

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Onion Marketing Program Committee

Glenn J. Leep of Martin, president of 4-L Farms, Inc., is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring August 16, 2010.

Mark J. Nail of Marshall, owner of Nail Farms, is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring August 16, 2010.

Eric J. Schreur of Hudsonville, field manager of Schreur Farms Inc., is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring August 16, 2010.

The Michigan Onion Marketing Program Committee is responsible for increasing utilization of Michigan Onions through market development, promotion and research. 

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Plum Marketing Program Committee

Martin J. Daly of Hart, owner and operator of Daly Orchard Co., is reappointed to represent growers from central Michigan for a term expiring July 1, 2010.

Paul J. Rood, Jr. of Covert, owner and operator of Paul Rood Orchards, is reappointed to represent growers from southern Michigan for a term expiring July 1, 2010.

Michael R. VanAgtmael of Hart, president of VanAgtmael & Sons, Inc., is reappointed to represent at-large growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010. 

The Michigan Plum Marketing Program Committee is responsible for supporting and creating greater marketing opportunities for the plum industry through advertising, promotion, and research.

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
