Granholm Announces Appointment to Board of State Canvassers

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Norman D. Shinkle of Williamston to the Board of State Canvassers. Shinkle, a nominee of the Michigan Republican State Committee, is appointed for the remainder of a term expiring January 31, 2011. He succeeds Stephen J. Linder who has resigned. Under the Michigan Election Law, the governor is required to fill the vacancy by appointing an individual nominated by the state central committee of the Michigan Republican Party.
The Board of State Canvassers certifies the results of state elections and performs other functions relating to ballot questions as prescribed by law.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
