LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Michigan Board of Cosmetology
Kathryn W. Spiller of Saginaw, admissions manager and fiscal officer for MJ Murphy Beauty College, is appointed to represent licensed cosmetologists for a term expiring December 31, 2010. She succeeds Douglas J. Weaver whose term has expired.
Denise M. Washington of Battle Creek, community development specialist for the city of Battle Creek, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2011. She succeeds John H. Jordan whose term has expired.
Cheryl M. Hadsall of Birch Run, owner of Willows Salon and Spa in Saginaw, is reappointed to represent licensed cosmetologists for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Board of Cosmetology provides for the licensing and regulation of cosmetologists, cosmetology schools, cosmetology instructors, electrologists, and manicurists.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs
Lawrence T. Garcia of Huntington Woods, partner with Allen Brothers, PLLC, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 10, 2009. He succeeds Maria del Carmen Soto who has resigned.
The commission was created by Public Act 164 of 1975 to develop policies and plans to serve the needs of Michigan's Spanish-speaking residents. The commission consists of 15 members from around the state appointed by the governor, who are of Hispanic descent and are Spanish-speaking.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons
Shawn E. Huston of Lewiston, owner of Huston Real Estate, Inc, is appointed to represent real estate brokers and sales persons for a term expiring June 30, 2012. He succeeds Julia A. Tesanovich whose term has expired.
Kitrina A. Spencer of Lansing, paralegal for Cataldo & Meeks, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2012. She succeeds Bradley L. Smith whose term has expired.
Mark J. Wehner, PMP of Lansing, program developer for Sparrow Hospital, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2009. He succeeds Joseph S. Calvaruso whose term has expired.
Brian T. Huggler of Lansing, associate broker for Coldwell Banker Hubbell Briarwood, is reappointed to represent real estate brokers and salespersons for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
Kyrian N. Nwagwu of Lathrup Village, president of BTF Village Group, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
The Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons provides for the licensing and regulation of real estate salespersons and real estate brokers, including anyone who acts as a real estate appraiser, real estate mortgage broker, building job broker, business chance broker, and/or engages in the sale of real estate as a principal vocation.

Residential Builders' and Maintenance and Alteration Contractors' Board
Gary K. August of Bloomfield Hills, shareholder and attorney with Zausmer, Kaufman, August, Caldwell & Tayler, P.C., is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 31, 2012.
Jennifer Schoats Flack of Orchard Lake, shareholder and attorney for Seyburn, Kahn, Ginn, Bess & Serlin, P.C., is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 31, 2012.
Kevin M. Lewand of Birmingham, president and owner of Lewand Custom Homes, is reappointed to represent licensed residential builders for a term expiring March 31, 2012.
The board provides for the licensing of persons who engage in business as residential builders, residential maintenance and alteration contractors, and salespersons. It sets standards of qualification and eligibility for licensure, authorizes the collection and expenditure of fees, and provides penalties for the violation of the act, including unlicensed operation.
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
State Fire Safety Board
David J. Henry, Jr. of Fruitport, vice president of facilities and supply chain management for Trinity Senior Living Communities, is appointed to represent owners of adult foster care facilities for a term expiring July 15, 2009. He succeeds Carl Simcox whose term has expired.
Jacqueline S. Hoist of Davison, architect and project manager for THA Architects Engineers, is appointed to represent registered architects for a term expiring July 15, 2011. She succeeds Beverly K. H. Jones whose term has expired.
Gerald "Bird" Smith of Lewiston, president of Talley's Log Cabin Bar, is appointed to represent persons who own a place of public assemblage for a term expiring July 15, 2011. He succeeds Judy Z. Keller whose term has expired.
Dean J. Mallos of Marquette, lieutenant of the city of Marquette fire department, is reappointed to represent organized fire departments in the Upper Peninsula for a term expiring July 15, 2012.
Gilbert L. Rider of Midland, emergency services focal point for Dow Chemical, is reappointed to represent the chemical manufacturing industry for a term expiring July 15, 2012.
Annette M. Swathwood of Comstock Park, equipment operator for the Grand Rapids fire department, is reappointed to represent organized fire departments in the Lower Peninsula for a term expiring July 15, 2012.
Timothy R. Tinney of Bridgeport, director of facility services with Covenant Healthcare, is reappointed to represent hospital administrators for a term expiring July 15, 2012.
Robert R. Vandemark of Fenton, president and owner of Industrial Propane Service, Inc., is reappointed to represent the liquefied petroleum gas industry or the flammable compressed gases industry for a term expiring July 15, 2012.
The State Fire Safety Board has the mission of protecting life and property from fire, smoke, hazardous materials, and fire related panic in specific types of public facilities throughout the state of Michigan.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
