LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
Ronald H. Bradley, D.O., Ph.D. of Williamston, president and CEO of Total Health Care of Michigan, P.C., is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
Paul M. Dake, M.D. of Brighton, assistant medical director for McLaren Family Practice Center, is reappointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
Neil B. Dorfman of West Bloomfield, pharmacy manager at Rite Aid Pharmacy of Walled Lake, is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
Erin E. Inman of Trufant, pharmacy director of the United and Kelsey Campuses of Spectrum Health United Memorial, is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
Khan J. Nedd, M.D. of Grand Rapids, president and CEO of Hospitalists of West Michigan, is reappointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 1, 2010.
The Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee advises the Department of Community Health on issues affecting prescription drug coverage for its various health care programs.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Public Safety Communications System Advisory Board
Adam L. Carroll of Hartland, fire chief of Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority, is appointed to represent local emergency first responders for a term expiring April 30, 2010. He succeeds James D. Reed who has resigned.
The Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) is Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network that provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members throughout the state. The MPSCS Advisory Board adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the MPSCS.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Qualifications Advisory Committee
Sherisse E. Fiorvento of Shelby Township, assistant general counsel and director of compliance for Visteon Corporation in Dearborn, is reappointed to represent employer interests for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
Diane M. Kwitoski of Berkley, attorney in private practice, is reappointed to represent employee interests for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
The Qualifications Advisory Committee reviews and rates applicants interested in serving on the Worker's Compensation Board of Magistrates and Workers' Compensation Appellate Commission.
These reappointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
Michigan Board of Mechanical Rules
Kevin P. Carden of Dearborn, business representative for Pipefitters Local 636, is appointed to represent organized labor representing mechanical trades for a term expiring October 1, 2012. He succeeds Charles M. Inman whose term has expired.
Henry E. Bartram of Farmington Hills, president of Diversified Heating and Cooling, is reappointed to represent refrigeration service for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
Robert K. Jagenberg of Farmington Hills, project manager of John E. Green, Inc., is reappointed to represent fire suppression for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
Gregory M. Parker of Troy, vice president of Tucker, Young, Jackson, Tull, Inc., is reappointed to represent registered professional mechanical engineers for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
William P. Steele of Vandalia, owner and operator of Steele's Heating & Air Conditioning, is reappointed to represent limited service heating and refrigeration for a term expiring October 1, 2012.
The Board of Mechanical Rules was created to make recommendations to the state Construction Code Commission on the promulgation of rules necessary for the safe design, construction, installation, alteration, servicing, and inspection of heating, cooling, ventilating, and refrigerating equipment.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Idlewild Centennial Commission
Elizabeth Atkins of Detroit, journalist, public speaker, and bestselling author of White Chocolate, Dark Secret, and Twilight, is reappointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
Ruth H. Burton of Lansing, past president of the Idlewild Lake Association, is reappointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
Mildred A. Kyles of Idlewild, planning member of the Detroit Tri-Centennial Committee/Detroit 300 Family Reunion Project and member of Positive Image, an Idlewild community action organization, is reappointed to represent the Idlewild community for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
John O. Meeks of Idlewild, president of the Idlewild African-American Chamber of Commerce, former owner of Morton's Motel in Idlewild and partner in the Idlewild, Michigan Transformation Initiative, is reappointed to represent the Idlewild community for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
The Idlewild Centennial Commission, created by Executive Order 2007-50, is charged with coordinating activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Idlewild resort community in Lake County. Founded in 1912, Idlewild represented freedom for many African Americans, being one of more than 30 resorts in the country where African Americans were permitted to vacation and purchase property before such discrimination became illegal in 1964. Commonly known as "Black Eden," Idlewild was an active, year-round community through the mid-1960s, frequented by well-known entertainers and professionals from throughout the country. Earlier this year, Granholm established the Idlewild transformation initiative to leverage the community's unique strengths so it can attract new investment and economic growth.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Barrier Free Design Board
Roger L. Donaldson of Holt, architect with Roger L. Donaldson, AIA PLC, is reappointed to represent architects for a term expiring October 31, 2011.
Brett E. Holt of Saginaw, former owner of Assistive Hearing Technologies, is reappointed to represent hearing impaired persons for a term expiring October 31, 2011.
Karla C. Hudson of East Lansing, former rehabilitation counselor for the Michigan Commission for the Blind, is reappointed to represent visually impaired persons for a term expiring October 31, 2011.
The Barrier Free Design Board has the responsibility of receiving, reviewing, and processing requests for exceptions to the barrier free design specifications, requiring appropriate equivalent alternatives when exceptions are granted, and receiving, processing, and making recommendations for barrier free design rules.
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority
David Adams of Brighton, president and CEO of the Michigan Credit Union League, is appointed to represent eligible lending institutions for a term expiring May 22, 2012. He succeeds James E. Barker IV whose term has expired.
Lester P. Monts, Ph.D. of Ann Arbor, senior vice provost for academic affairs and an Arthur F. Thurnau professor of music at the University of Michigan, is appointed to represent the University of Michigan for a term expiring May 22, 2010. He succeeds Cynthia H. Wilbanks whose term has expired.
The Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority enhances freedom of choice and equality of access to Michigan students seeking a postsecondary education. It also administers a wide variety of state and federal scholarships and grant and loan programs.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan State Waterways Commission
The Honorable Robert E. Weiss of Grand Blanc, chief probate judge of Genesee County, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 18, 2011. He succeeds Bryan L. Amann whose term has expired.
Robert B. Brown of St. Ignace, general manager for Arnold Transit Company, is reappointed to represent members who represent the marine industry who do not own or operate a harbor or marina and who reside north of townline 16 in the Upper Peninsula for a term expiring September 18, 2011.
The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
